Excellent post on the pros & cons of Rudys.

I would like to add some commentary on the Rudy CCC (4/4-sized piston) tuba. This is one excellent all-around tuba, combining the generally excellent response of a piston horn with the rich, colorful sound that make Rudy Meinls so special. Pitch is excellent on these tubas and, as Christian mentioned, the ergonomics are very good (good bell height, valveset positioning, leadpipe height, etc.).

The only drawback I have found with this tuba is that the low G (3 lines and a space below the staff) is difficult to center. However, this is the only note I have found on my tuba that has this issue...a small thing that I am happy to deal with in order to reap the benefits of this fine instrument.

If any of you have an opportunity to try one, jump at the chance...but make sure you have your checkbook or credit card handy..you may not want to walk away without one.
