I've played on Lew Waldeck's old Bb "cimbasso" (it looks like a giant mellophone)and IMO, it's REALLY funky...on some of the lower notes, you move the valves, and the pitch doesn't change! In NYC Opera, Steve Johns now uses a Rudy Meinl in F. A really nice horn, and with the 2nd valve kicker, very easy to play in tune. I own a Rudy in F as well, and F gets my vote. BTW, I've noticed none of the traditional German F tuba weirdness around low C. You can really paste in that register, if you choose to.
