Any skin tonic, creme, and so on tend to gunk up on any mouthpiece surface. The very few times a year I have to support the moisture/fat balance of my lips and their surroundings, I wash my mouthpieces right after any playing session. Can also be done with a flute head.
Kleenex might very well be a more hygienic medium for face wiping than the shirt of a young boy. Even if the basic reason for the problem is in the allergic sphere, the sore skin is very vulnerable to infections. Especially if they are introduced by a series of rather tough "shirt" wipes.
If the perfume in the Kleenexes is causing problems, the there are tissue rolls for kitchen purposes.
