That's a good question, Joe, and that's exactly what happened to me ten years ago when I wanted to enlist in the Army! (OK, a little more than ten...) I had passed the audition, completed the physical and everything, but when we sat down at the computer (TRS-80 I think) and looked for an opening for a tuba player, there was none! No gaurantee, no sign the contract! Of course, eventually the Marine recruiter got hold of me, (there was apparently a dearth of tubists in the Marines at the time) and the rest, as they say, is history. (Two years on Okinawa with a shaved head should do the trick...)
