Oy -- the Gregson is wonderful, but speaking from personal experience, performing it on a low tuba (BBb/CC) is not much fun. The first movement is OK (although there's an infamous sixteenth-note lick in the high register that causes problems), the second starts to hurt a bit, and the third is just PAINFUL unless you have really strong high chops, IMHO. Also, the first and third movement really require a lot of clarity that is difficult to get on a BBb or CC (it was written for an Eb anyways.)

Now all of you phenomenal players are going to up and try to shoot me out of the water.
That's OK, you all are entitled to your own opinion. I'm just talking from my own experience of trying to tackle the Gregson for two years on a BBb, and never being satisfied with it.
