any professional tuba players or high school band directors who are established tubists. what are your thoughts on playing solo material for young kids in elementary and middle school in your area? i think this would be a wonderful idea to get kids excited about learning tuba and euphonium. so many kids are fascinated by trumpet, clarinet and flute. i realize that the tuba may be too big for most kids but get them excited about learning euphonium. the way to gain more respect and appreciation for our instrument is to start with the musicians of tomorrow. i recently played for a local high school and the responses were absolutely incredible. many of the kids(including the band director) had never heared the tuba as a solo instrument. we tuba players don't have to be at the bottom of the orchestra and band heap forever. we can help our instrument to shine and become respected as being "musicaly capable" instead of "musicaly challenged". just my 2 cents.
