I admire Mr. Don Harry's playing, greatly respect the results of his teaching efforts, and share several mutual friends, but I will probably not be able to meet him until sometime this next year. (I'm very, very much looking forward to the pleasure, and hope that I am in Rochester when HE is.)

I am a pretty good trumpet player -- for about twenty or thirty minutes (funny, I guess, AND true) -- a good reader and have a pretty good high range. Playing the trumpet - or not - has no measurable effect on my tuba ability, range, security, or tone quality. (My own experience is what I based my advice on.) I just do it strickly for fun, as is the purpose of ALL of this. I couldn't imagine walking around my house buzzing on a trumpet mouthpiece without a trumpet hanging off of the end of it. :-)
