When I studied with Don Harry a decade ago, he told me that he often plays trumpet for the fun of it. Joe, since you have contact with him (sort of) you may want to ask him if that positively affects his high register.

I have heard that some famous tubists do play trumpet a little to strengthen their high register, but I would rather pass along what I only know first hand.

P.S. I myself almost never play trumpet because I just sound so BAD at it, no one in my family will let me. I have played Handel's Bass Aria 'The Trumpet Shall Sound' on the tuba numerous times for different churches. Once, I brought along a trumpet for the intro and ending. The music director at that church told me to leave the trumpet home the next time I came.
