I want to clarify my previous follow up. I believe that American orchestras have a more solid sound from strings to brass to winds. I was not questioning a conductors ability to create their own enterpretations of Mahlers music. I will admit that sometimes I like to hear the low brass passages super loud and clear, but sometimes I love to hear a super powerful string section. I own many old Philadelphia recordings that the clarity across the ensemble is amazing. I own some recordings of Chicago that were recorded for brass players. I love all of them for several reasons, some similar, some totaly different. I love any passion that is conveyed through music from cello to oboe to bass trombone.
