If one had a vintage contrabass tuba with a very large bell, I wonder how trimming the bell down to 19.5 - 20" would affect the sound? More 'focus' or really little discernable alteration? You'd only alter the end flair I guess. I appreciate this wouldn't be an easy job and am not going to attempt it; I just wonder about the sound.
This is sometimes done when folks cut those old Bb's to C isn't it- Mainly for practicality (like fitting through doorways!) and achieving the desired 'look'?
