Sauter-Finnegan was a NYC jazz orchestra in the 1950s/60s.
It was YEARS ahead of its time in its conception and arrangements.
It has "near-cult" status today among people who care about such stuff.

One of S-F's salient characteristics was its use of Harvey Phillips.

In that sense, the writing reflected one of Duke Ellington's axioms: When you have a special talent in your band, you write for that talent.
