I am not a great doubler on electric bass, but I can say a Fender P-bass is a great bass, and pretty much a standard for Blues and rock. I have a cheapo Fender squire P-bass and I can tell the difference between it and the non-squire. Peavey makes good amps, and depending on the vintage of the instrument and amp, you could be offered a good deal. If you want to do any gigs, I'm very happy with my Fender Bassman 60 (amp), which ran about 450 new. Its a combo type amp with both XRL out and in, so it can be driven as a speaker from a sound board, or be run into a mixer, ect. BTW its very fun to mess arround with.
