Actually "London" refers generally to the group 95 through 104 that Haydn composed while on extended residency in London, while in the employ of the Salomon family. # 104 is specifically subtitled "London" and employs street merchant calls in the finale. I may have been hasty in my designation of 101 as the symphony I heard him play the first movement of. Denis Wick told me that Fletcher had more than one Haydn symphony at his fingertips. Whichever one it was, he had total recall of the music and played through it without hesitations or second thoughts of any kind.
