From where I sit at the periphery of the profession, it would appear that the dismissed musicians may not necesarily be the "worst players" but they are likely to be the most vulnerable members of the orchestra in with regard to termination procedures. That is why the jumping to conclusions about the supposed quality of these players has so rankled the few posters with credentials of their own in these situations.
