I have experienced the same concerns with the 56j. A couple of years before it came out I started experimenting with cutting the King 2341 down to a CC. I showed the guys at UMI what I had come up with, but they didn't seem too interested. Perhaps by then they were already pretty much committed to Matt's design. At that time they had a prototype 56j for me to try. I was pleased to see a good American CC reaching the market. It is a fine horn. My work is simpler, much more compact front-to-back and the 5th valve is tucked in close. I've put together 8 of these so far. Here's a pic of one of them. Wha'dya think?
