It sounds as if you recorded at 44.1khz and the DAT thinks it'srecorded at 48khz, that accounts for your speed/pitch discrepancy. The problem sounds like it has something to do with the settings for the digital transfer and the machines aren't talking to each other correctly. You need to read your manuals to check a couple of things.
1) make sure both machines are set to the same protocol for digital I/O (SPDIF, AES/EBU, Lightpipe or optical).
2) Even though your DAT is switchable from 44.1 to 48 that may have no effect on the digital input (again you need to read your manual) The method of transfer may be fixed at a particular clock rate but without looking it up I couldn't say for sure.
3) Is it possible on the hard disc to do a sample rate conversion to match what the DAT thinks it's seeing?
Without knowing what equipment you're using it's difficult to say for sure what the problem is but if all else fails you could at least make an analogue transfer from the hard disc to the DAT that would sound OK.
