Posts regarding the best way to rest your tuba safely come along at a fairly regular rate with the answers always consisting of some form of whether or not to stand the horn on its bell. Has anyone seen one of the stands that fit the bottom bow and keep your horn upright safely next to your chair during long layouts or intermissions? No contact with the abrasive floor, no bell damage, easy to lift upright into playing position. The only rub is that only European players seem to have them. I see no mention in music catalogs or other literature. I recently played alongside a German fellow who seemed surprised that nobody else had one. I sketched it and tig-welded it up out of structural steel tubing with the next one to be aluminum. Can't stop smiling even though it's one more piece of equipment to carry.....
