If you are considering a U.S. university, take the SAT's and ACT's now. Even if partial music scholarship is available, look for academic, fraternity, and sport scholarships to subsidize. Figure out what kind of teacher you need for your best work to blossom...i.e. tyrant, teddybear, intense, relaxed, in your face, hands off. This depends on what kind of student you are. When you figure that out, next balance the scholarship possibilities and the possibility of gigs in the area. a tubaplayers gotta eat. brush up your teaching skills.

My final recommendation is only get a degree in education if you want to teach school...otherwise it takes way too much time.
