When I was 10 years old and just starting to play the tuba my sister's sax teacher, who knew liked the tuba, rang up to tell me to listen a live radio broadcast of a tubist with orchestral accompanyment.
It was Frank Barzyk performing the W. Lovelock Tuba Concerto with the MSO. I managed to record about the last 3/4 of the performance off the radio and listened to this constantly during the next 10 years as I learnt the tuba. I still consider Frank's performance to be the best tuba solo with orchestral backing I've ever heard. Truly inspirational. I've never managed to get the entire recording and lost my only taped recording about 5 years ago.
