A small suggestion: don't buy a big horn. The best thing you can do or yourself right now is to get a 4/4 size very versatile horn suitable for every day needs and one that you can (feasibly) play professionally for the rest of your life. Miraphone 186s work extremely well as do Meinly Weston, Rudy Meinl, and Boosey and Hawkes. Get to a large brass store (nothing local and definitely not Cascios) and try out as many horns as you can. If it's a long distance, go for it. It is definitely worth the drive.
