I have seen C tubas with tuba receivers and Large and european euphonium receivers. Dillon has one of the Cerveny C with the european. 4valve rotary. It has a pretty sound, I didn't play it long enough to get a handle on the intonation, seemed a bit wacky. The one I played with a tuba receiver was a 4valve stamped walter seer with the heavy nickle silver plating. It had an interesting but "masked" or "muted" sound. My theory with the walter seer instruments is that the plating might be too heavey and dulls the sound of the horns.
I don't think a C euph would replace the Bb in bands in the US. I imagine someday, somebody will use one as a soloist. As for the orchestra, an excerpt like Ein heldenleben is much smoother on a C instrument. The Planets would work on C, but seems to fit better on Bb.
