I was just curious (after bidding hundreds less) what some other lunatic's "max bid" was. Once I approached the $550 "threshold", the increment jumped up from $5 to $10, so I thought, "What the heck?" and instead of stopping my fishing expedition at $544.99 (wishing that I could bid $549.99, but couldn't), I had to "jump over" what I suspected was the in-place "max bid" of $550 (which it indeed was).

Knowing that bidding frenzies (whether created by me or others) always generate more bidding frenzies (no matter how useless the item), I wasn't worried that I would have to buy that old clunker. (no offense and congratulations to the winner)
