Although pros and cons of piston valved F and Eb tubas have been discussed extensively on this BBS, I am looking for some, maybe, new and updated information on different piston valve F/Eb tubas (Besson, MWs, Willson, Courtois, Nirschl, Hirsbrunner, Yamaha, ...). I have tried the rotary tubas espcially F tubas, but I finally decided to prefer the piston ones (sound, valve concept etc.)

Considering solos, quintett and orchestral playing (note the order), what was or would be your preferred instrument ? What made you decide on your choise and why did you choose it over others (sound, response, consistency) ? Are there still some drawback (especially the craftmanship of besson tubas was a main objective of several postings)

Any advise is greatly appreciated in my course of hunting a new piston F/Eb tuba.

Thanks

Bruce
