Wonderful observations!!!! Thank you. I do have both recordings of the Bartok(how did they ever let that monumental trombone clam go in the Solti?!). I have listened to both closely, though I do not have the monural recording. But, In my mind, Jake is a specific class. He always sounded the same on all his recordings, big, fat, and wonderfully present, with the exception of the Boulez(I think the conductor is correct) recording of Neilson from 1966, which sounds as if they had a mike down his bell. Since you are up on the recording industry, can you tell me why Jake sounds markedly different on the Reiner/Nevsky than on any other recording that was made for RCA in those days? Thanks in advance. I would like your insights on both Deck's and Pokorny's recorded sound from the same stand point.
