I would suggest talking with Matt Walters from Dillon Music about cutting the slide before you do anything drastic like that. I had close to 2 1/2 inches cut off of my Alexander CC Tuba this past summer and he really did a superb job. Now, the whole job depleated my wallet pretty well, but he also did some other work to it as well, not just the cutting. And it was all well worth it (believe me) because the alternate fingerings system still didn't bring it in tune. The situation may be different with your euphonium. If you have time and the resources to get to Washington D.C. the weekend of the 27th of January, I know Matt will be there and would be able possibly give you an estimate of the work to be done to it. There is going to be the army tuba conference there that weekend, and he will have his booth set up all weekend. If that isn't an option, they have a website where you can contact him...www.dillonmusic.com I hope maybe that will help you.
