Don't think the horn is a problem. The projection is probably more related to air efficiency and sound quality than lack of effort. Take a look at the following search through the archives for some tips.

Also spend a great deal of time playing the melodies in the back of the Trumpet version of the Arbans. Not the theme and variations, but instead the short melodies preceding the duets near the back. Perform them with as large a presence as possible.

Also, don't be afraid of playing with a wider dynamic range. Some people are so tied up in knots over perceptions of their sound under the bell during louder dynamics that they limit themselves artificially. If you have ever been near an orchestral musician at full tilt concert dynamics during a ff section of a tune, then you may walk away saying to yourself, "That was a discusting". Walk 30-50 feet away in a larger hall and you would say, "What a powerful presence." First time this really hit me was hearing Dale Clevenger in a masterclass. Up close he sounded like $#(AT)*, but further back it made total since.

I am not saying to go after a $%^#% sound, but be willing to allow yourself to be free and experiment. Having not performed much at a focussed and controlled ff, it may at first "feel" and sound wrong under the bell. Try not to confuse "wrong" with strange. Master the new stange concepts and they will become part of your artistic toolbox.
