As for me, my father played tuba. I can remember going to our "Town Band" as a kid and falling asleep to my father playing tuba. It wasn't a given that I was going to play tuba though. I thought about playing something else, but in the end, tuba won out.
I don't know how the others will feel about this, but I happen to think that anyone can play tuba. It has to be one of the easiest instruments of the band, and of course, the parts are easy too. However, there is more to it, for me. It is one of the great joys I have in life, being able to be the "aural canvas" that the flutes, trumpets, bones, horns...whoever has the melody. I am able to listen to the beautiful melodies going on while I am also able to be a part of the "aural picture." That is the reason I play tuba.
