My son has a Besson 2-20 3/4 Bflat tuba that he has been playing during junior high. It has been a good starter tuba but he is growing and would like a larger BBflat tuba. One of the instruments we have looked at is a big Conn with detachable bell front
and 3 short action piston valves. I notice most instruments now have upright bells
and 4 or 5 valves, usually rotary. I want to find an instrument that will help my son progress. Is this Conn worth a second look? What are the drawbacks to bell front
instruments? What about only three valves? I have seen positive references to
older Conn tubas but is it this type tuba? If not, what models should we look for?
Thanks for the help. Dad needs help!
