But you lost me on your internym. Every unlacquered instrument I've ever seen was still buffed to a high shine before it was sold, even if it was going to be lacquered.

Of my tubas, the Yamaha looks best (it has the epoxy lacquer), with no loss of lacquer after 13 or 14 years of use. The B&S still has a lot of its lacquer except at the contact points. The Holton has some of its lacquer, much of it scratched up or smeared by subsequent repairs. I polished the brass on the bare spots using Nevr-Dull, and that helped the appearance. The Miraphone and the York Master are unlacquered.

The only conclusion I've come to is that the horns I've always wanted never seem to come in silver plate for a price I'm willing to pay.
