Raising the Pitch of a Horn

I have a Besson 983, for which I like the PT 72 mouthpiece. The only problem is that the overall pitch is low with that mouthpiece. I know that the Dillon S3 is made for that horn, and I have one, but I like the SOUND of the PT 72 better.

My question is this: Can you raise the pitch by shaving the shank of the mouthpiece, so that it sits further into the horn? or would that produce too subtle a pitch change? (It seems that it would be difficult to cut the slides, based on the design).

THANKS!
