i know BBb tuba in orchestra sounds kinda strange for most of you more serious players, but hear me out. i am a high school tuba player thinking of entering the young artists' concerto competition with the Houston Civic Symphony next year. i would like to know what options i have with regards to repertoire. the only concerto for full orchestra i have heard is the Vaughn Williams, which is quite high for a BBb tuba. i can hit notes up to F above high Bb (space above 2nd line above the bass clef), but anything above that is iffy at best. is their anything written for a lower instrument (or lower player)? or should i just go work on my high range? thanks.
