When you could get St. Petes for under a grand, they were a reasonable choice for someone who had their eyes open. You could have fun with a St. Pete at that price point--at least it's a tuba designed to play western music.

As we see above, some of the Chinese tubas are getting there. There are some baritone horns that are actually getting good reports from high-end players. And I'm sure the cheapie Asian-made tubas that Custom is stenciling with their Sanders brand are at least tolerable.

The problem is--how do you know your getting a good when you buy it on ebay? It might well be one from last year or from a lesser factory that plays no recognizable scale.
