My University used a scale routine as our daily warm up. We played all 12 major in addition to several different arpeggios. We played major, minor, dominant 7th, and diminished 7th arpeggios daily for all 12 major keys. We even changed the routine from simple time to compund and began doing the routine in 6/8 time. I think in addition to everyone in the ensemble knowing all of their scales and arpeggios it added to our internal pulse and listening skills because we always did the routine with out a conductor or metronome.
