I'm wondering if I can change the taper in my German rotary F by utilizing a well-placed dent. I have found that the "uncentered" low C and thereabouts are not so much uncentered as extremely sharp, and the uncentered feeling is produced by trying to make the tuba play a low C when what it really wants to play is a half step or more above that. I compensate by using extra tubing via alternate fingerings, at least so far. It gets me the notes I want. But if I could put a dent in the right place in the leadpipe, or the bottom bow, maybe these pitches would be lowered to be in tune with standard fingerings.
Or, I suppose since a dent is ugly, I could use a glob of solder. I tried the acousticoil and sent it back.
