Oh, I dunno. I've heard that high piano G# entrance botched by top pros (as in, world-class orchestral players) on more than one occasion. There must be something about it that makes it so difficult. These are the same players who nail the high Bb in Fantastique ten times out of ten, though, of course, it scales up to that note instead of requiring one to pick it out of thin air.

And I also don't think that playing it on a euphonium requires that it be too "pretty." I would think that a reasonable player could manage it on a euphonium with whatever character fit their interpretation, and with much greater security on that high note. Changing the tone color as needed is far easier in the characteristic range of the instrument in question.
