I believe I know what you meant, however I wouldn't really want to sound like many people's stereotype. I have spent my tuba life trying to avoid that type of playing. Now, the term "characteristic," though open for some interpretation, is one which most instrumental musicians know and understand. I'm not trying to pick your comment apart, but I think most good tuba players would want to avoid the public's stereotype. For instance, I don't believe Patrick Sheridan plays like the stereotype. He does, however, play pretty well. In fact, one might describe his sound and style as being "characteristic."
