I picked up a new Miraphone catalog at the Army conference. The traditional numbers are a bit buried (the "86" is the only part you see, it seems) in their current model designations, but they are unchanged from previous decades.

The instruments themselves have changed, however. A 186 used to have a 16" bell, and now it has a 17" bell, and so on.

I don't have the catalog here at the office, however, so I can't unravel the specific number you mention.
