Klaus: The sixth valves on the F allows for alternate fingerings for each of the notes you name. Slides are pulled in anticipation of the next 20-50 bars of music. For example, the Bb on an F is frequently sharp while the Eb is "in". Bb has at least 3 sets of alternate fingerings, 1; 1-4 (which allows the fourth slide to be pre-positioned); and 6-4 (which allows the 6th slide to be pre-positioned). The notes you mentioned have similiar solutions. Alternate fingering supplements slide pulls and the F has them in abundance, whereas the comp. Eb has very few. It's somewhat of a shame to use your left hand only to support the horn when it can operate the F's "left bank". HCritch
