You are in a good situation, in that there really is not "wrong" decision. The time you spend learning new fingerings will not be wasted as it will give you a good reason to rededicate yourself to the basics all too often ignored. BBb and CC are not your only options. You also deserve to consider EEb and F as well. If I had to pick just one of my horns to keep it would be the EEb hands down. Covers the solo work, quintet and tuba quartet, brass band and community band (not so well for orchestra save the smaller orchestras in churches). What ever horn you choose, it will have a learning curve (even another BBb to some extent). Be forewarned: By stating that this is your first tuba you imply that it will not be your last tuba. Many tuba players own multiple horns in various keys!
