Hey Flat Sharp,
You stated,"I was told by at least one person that the better the player the "flater" the player plays, therefore requiring a shorter slide. I can attest to the fact that the more practicing I do the more the main slide has to be moved in to play in tune".
This is an interesting theory and I was just wondering who the person who told you this is and why they came to that conclusion.
Correct me if I am wrong but I thought it was a Miraphone practice to pitch the horn to A 443? Maybe that had something to do with the tuning slide beside the other factors such as mouthpiece and the tendency of the group to play on the flat side?
So far as the two model horns go either is a nice choice for a cocert Band situation. With the right mouthpiece set up you will not have to work so hard to get a big sound.
