While it's great to study with a big name teacher, in a studio of 20+ tuba players, how many of them will get to play in the better ensembles? Let's see... one tuba in an orchestra(maybe there are two or three orchestras at IU, I don't know)... maybe a couple of decent brass quintets... then you have a dozen and a half tuba majors who go through a whole degree program playing only(or mainly) band music. Personally(just my opinion), unless you want a "band" degree, there aren't many Universities in the united states that I would consider attending as an undergrad... especially as a performance major.
