Don't know anything about the PT-22.

'Course, I also don't know you or your instructor, but I'm an EXPERT at reading between the lines. There are three reasons I can think of for your teacher to object to trading equipment:
1) He can't afford to do it, or isn't a good trader, and he's envious (I hope not);
2) He feels that you are looking for solutions in equipment that can only be found in the practice room; or
3) He feels that you would benefit from becoming more intimate with your equipment than you are (however intimate that may be).

Or, it could be something else. I'd tell him, "Jeepers, teach, I don't know what to do. I want to get this new horn, but I respect you so much -- why is it that you don't think I should switch?" Maybe you can convince him you are right and gain his support, or maybe he'll make a great case and you'll decide it's not in your best interests.

Good luck, whatever you do.
