I feel about tubas as you do. Everytime I like one, I want to own it. But this is impractical and I am limited to a meager 7 horns, 5 of them tubas. My wife is of Swiss lineage so any Swiss horn I play gets her attention and I own a Hirsbruner (HB4C) and a Willson (3400). But I don't push the point if I have more tubas than I can play at least once each week which I now have. In your case, you wonder if you should change from a BE983 to the new PT 22, not acquire an additional horn. I find the eminently reasonable. But before I spent the money, I would try a Willson, a Nirschle and a new MW.
That is because my wife is of Swiss lineage and is an inveterate accountant and . . .
