The easiest one to obtain, with truly excellent tuba playing, and a generally fine all round performance is the Bayreuth Festival under Barenboim on Teldec 94143. Walter Hilgers on tuba. Terrific job. Harder to get (import only) is the Boulez/Bayreuth on Philips with the late Ron Pisarkiewicz. It's easier to get this performance on video. Visually very well done, interesting concept and stage design. Then there's the Met/Levine on DG 429407, with Herb Wekselblatt, not well-miked for my money, doesn't do Herb justice. You can also get Met/Levine on video, different performance, live, and the tubist is Steve Johns. Then there's the Karajan/Berlin on DG 457780.
