What a gorgeous sound. At Aspen a few years ago, he was hired to play with the Festival Orchestra. I'd walk around campus at times and hear him playing Bordognis (Rochuts) outside. Quite possibly the most lyrical playing I've ever heard come out of a tuba. We got a couple of lessons with him when Torchinsky became ill that summer. We somehow started talking about air travel damage to our instruments. He told me that one airline dropped his 2165 on the bow and totally destroyed it. He had the bow fixed or replaced, and he said the horn played better than ever before!
