I'm not quite sure what you are asking. However, I can offer you this: I am
a senior in High School who plays baseball. A month before an All-State band
concert, I was hit in the mouth by a pitch and received a gash on the
inside of my mouth below the lower lip that required 17 stitches. I also
cracked one front tooth in half and fractured the other, which broke the
rest of the way off in a bike accident months later. Despite this, I healed
up and played the concert quite well despite having a large lump of scar
tissue embedded in part of my embouchure.
The day after the bike accident, I was cleated in another baseball game,
which resulted in a gash right on the left corner of my mouth, and the
breakage of the cap that was put on the front tooth. This time, I had to have
five stitches and two caps done.
The moral of the story? Three months later, I made All State for the
second time and was selected pricipal tubist despite having two fake
front teeth, a lump in my embouchure, and one corner of my mouth at
half strength. Now (about eight months later), the only thing that has
changed is that I can't practice the high register for more than a half
hour at a time. The muscles in the corner of my mouth are starting to come
back, which to me would suggest that playing has built them up. My lips
sure don't "look nice", but I "sound nice" anyway.
