Think of it this way- your teacher isn't dogging you about missing notes anymore. Is it because your teacher gave up? More likely, you don't miss notes as much anymore. Now your teacher can concentrate on intonation and sound, because the notes are there. Try to see if the criticisms are progressing as you progress. Jay can teach things and make constructive critical observations to his college students that his younger students are not in a position to grasp or appreciate. To the younger students it may seem like splitting hairs. To the graduating performance students, it's the difference between a paying gig and waiting tables.

If you ask your teacher "do I do this or that well?", be prepared. The answer will probably start with "Yes, but...".

Nobody does everything perfectly. There is always room for improvement. Try to decide if your teacher is pointing you in the direction that will provide the most improvment in the quickest time. Listen to the message before you decide to hang the messenger.
