I did not have the pleasure of meeting Mr. Jacobs, but my teacher did. It is my understanding from speaking with him as well as reading a couple of biographical books about the greatest authority on "song & wind" heretofore, that he viewed being referred to as "Jake" to be a welcome greeting to those who worked with him. I'm not sure it shows disrespect to refer to a departed friend in loving, friendly, familiar terms.
I for one can only refer to him as Mr. Jacobs because I did not know him. If you knew him, I will defer to your judgement as to how you refer to this great man.
