Almost all of my tuba playing is in large orchestral settings. I have used a Meinl Weston CC with four valves and have gotten along well with it. However, I have used two other CC tubas with 5 valves (Cerveny 601-5MR, whole step; Mirafone S-186, two steps) and the fifth valve makes articulation and intonation much better. The 5 valve tuba is to be preferred to the 4 valve in my opinion.
