Um, Ryan, did you know that the nickel plating on the St. Petes is done in Russia? I believe that Frieder told me that the lacquer is done in Germany (which is why it's more expensive). I guess that I wouldn't want to trust the rather tricky business of plating (requires scrupulous cleanliness) to the workmen over there in Mother Russia. It's easy enough to resolder a bad joint, but bad plating is a nightmare in the making.

You might not notice a problem until you put a couple of dings in the horn, but sooner or later, it's my guess that the very hard nickel plating over that soft brass would start peeling and pitting. It's very difficult to repair this kind of damange.

It's probably a good idea and pay extra for the lacquer unless you like keeping raw brass polished.
